Awesome conversation with Lotus this morning

We walk to school with Lotus almost every morning.  Often we rush out the door and the walk is filled with grumblings and complaining from both parent and child.  Nate and I trade off and the chaperon is determined by a careful equation of patience and caffeine.  But sometimes it's a magic morning that gives us some one on one time with our princess.  This was one of those mornings and this was one of those conversations.

For context, Lotus had a thorn stuck in her thigh earlier in the week, she didn't want to tell us because she thought we would hurt her taking it out.  It didn't seem to comfortable in there and of course the anticipation was worse than the actual moment of extraction.  I told her a story of when I had cut my heal and was afraid or embarrassed to tell my mom (why?  Who knows?).  It got infected and the outcome was pretty awful.   I also told her that my dad had gotten gangrene from an infected splinter in his hand (that and going from the middle of winter in D.C. to the middle of summer in the outback of Australia, but that's another story).  And in the end it's better for moms and dads to help with ouchie things before they get worse.

On to our conversation...

L: So Papa had Green Day in his thumb?

Me: (chuckling) No, not Green Day, gangrene.  Do you know what Green Day is?

L: Yes, it's Louis Armstrong music.

M: What? Huh?  I don't think Louis Armstrong has anything to do with Green Day?

L: Yes!  I saw him on TV with Christina Aguilera.

Me: I don't think that's possible.  He's been dead for a while.

L: No, I saw him on that show the Voice.

Me: OH you mean Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day!

L: Yeah that's who I meant.

Me: I think it's so awesome you even know the name Louis Armstrong.

L: Yup.  I am pretty awesome.

So Happy Friday Everyone!
